To my very dear friend, Petra...
Your dear "Stella" has been an inspiration to me (can I post a pic of "Stella" on here??).
Do you remember my white vanity? I got it at a garage sale (you were not with me on that adventure about two years ago - I think you were visiting the MotherLand).
It's white with some scroll work. It's from Target. Made from your typical partical board mixed with some wood. It is a seated vanity with a stool - creamy paisley cushion. It has a drawer with those lovely glass knobs. I paid 30 bucks for it, and it's in excellent condition! (I've thrown in a few pictures to serve as visual aids.)
I've gifted this vanity to Lulubelle, because I am not a fashionista, though, believe me, I have tried.
Tonight, the lights went out - we had a mix-up with the electric company (ugh - another long story), and we missed the "Week of the Child" celebration at the playschool. Lulu, as usual, was quite upset by this. So, thinking on my toes, I told her that, not only could she have my vanity for herself now that she is a big girl but that we would also paint it this weekend.
Now, with Henry in the hospital and the kitty-cat mix up and getting to spend two nights at Grammy Ahasic's (where she was appropriately spoiled so rottenly that she didn't want to come home), I feel that I must make this happen for her.
Petra, my friend, you have me hooked on spray paints. I'm sure it's killing brain cells one by one, but, alas, the finished result is so startling (annnnnnd fast!). Besides, raucous nights at your house are killing additional cells - last weekend was too much even for me!!
In any case, I asked Lucy was color she thought she might like to paint her vanity, which is, as yet, nameless. When I tell her that you have named your vanity "Stella", I'm confident she will want to choose a name for her's, too.
Her answer to the color question - "Rainbow, Mommy."
I should have seen it coming. She's had a fondness for rainbows for quite some time now. Most of her art pictures are Technicolor-ed. (And, when doing the occasional portrait, we all have looooon-nnng legs and very large ears, but that's another story...)
So, my dear friend Petra, how do I create a rainbow vanity? I did ask her if she might like to choose one color and then we could paint her name in rainbow colors. She then said (another give-me) "Yellow for the color, and I want my name in a rainbow."
This simplifies things - a bit. She still wants to help me paint it. I think I can talk her out of the rafters by giving it a ceremonious unveiling. Afterwards, she can play pretty princess to her heart's desire.
If you have links, ideas, color wheels, etc., please share. I will use the tag "rainbow vanity" so any other mommys or daddys who have allowed their children expansive creative license might also get some ideas.
Ready, get set, GOOOOOOOO!
PS - if spray paint is not a good choice (I'll use primer, I PROMISE!), what would you recommend instead?
